Research

The Department of Ophthalmology works to advance patient diagnostics through research into the origins of ocular disesases, as well as new diagnostic and treatment modalities. The vision science community at Stanford University conducts research in such areas as retinal pathophysiology and genetics, retinal neurobiology and prosthetic vision, novel microsurgical tools and therapeutic lasers, advanced diagnostics and imaging, ophthalmic tissue engineering and corneal prosthetics, ocular microbiology and stem cells.

Research efforts in the Department of Ophthalmology span both the basic sciences and clinical care.
