Center for Clinical Study of Vitreoretinal Disease
California VitreoRetinal Center

Investigators active at CVRC include: Mark S. Blumenkranz, M.D., Robert Jack, M.D., Thomas Rice, M.D., Steve Sanislo, M.D., and Darius Moshfeghi, M.D.

A clinical research unit with multiple full-time research coordinators and special instrumentation designed to study the normal retina as well as various disease states and experimental therapies. The Center works in close collaboration with the University, including Medicine, Surgery, Physics and Pathology, and multiple leading-edge medical instrument and biotechnology companies including Coherent Laser, Iridex Laser, Zeiss Humphrey Instruments, Alcon Laboratories, Genentech, Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacyclics and Eli Lilly.

In recent years, the Center has been at the forefront of important advances in photodynamic therapy for age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), in the use of lasers and other novel treatment regimes for the early stages of ARMD and in the use of liquid perfluorocarbons and silicone oil for retinal detachment.

Center for Clinical Electrophysiology of the Retina

Principal Investigator: Michael F. Marmor, M.D.

Explorations of new techniques in electroretinography and related tests, and the electrophysiologic characterization of mechanisms and diagnosis of retinal disease. Investigations include studies on multifocal electroretinography, recognition of S-cone responses, and non-photic responses of the retinal pigment epithelium, as well as clinical studies on central serous chorioretinopathy, hydroxychloroquine toxicity, retinal dystrophies and age-related macular degeneration.

Center for the Clinical Study of Cornea and External Diseases
